Author's Note of Sorts : Hello, this is my first, solid attempt at a fanfic.
I am sure that everyone is aware of all the everpresent, disclaimers and
the like. This story, contains Two of my favourite charecters, Kaiou Michiru
and Tenou Haruka. While nothing ecchi goes on, it is a touch more friendly
then most I think. For a basic timeline, I am going to have it in S., but
naturally with my own fabricated events and such. Hmm, I think that covers
all the bases...so on with it....Naturally I encourage mail, be it flames or
 comments. ~~~~~Michie. (michiru10@aol.com)

                     The Gift.

Michiru sighed sleepily in her bed, she felt comfortable and safe
however, because her love Haruka held her tightly as she slept like she was
protecting her even in sleep. Michiru never found that holding each other
while they slept was cloying, she loved the way Haruka would rest her face
in her wavy aqua locks.

The night was pleasent enough, the moon had just emerged after a light
rain. Michiru squirmed carefully, and turned on her side so she was facing
her love. She immeadiately smiled when she looked at Haruka's face, asleep
she looked like a cherub, gentle and beautiful. Haruka stirred in her dream,
Michiru reached out and brushed the golden bangs off of her forehead and
kissed her softly. Michiru was too excited to sleep, and decided to wander
off into the kitchen, then perhaps check on Hotaru.

"Michiru?" Setsuna murmerd barely above a whisper upon seeing her.

" Sets, hello, what are you doing up so late?" Michiru said quietly.

"Not fair, I asked first sort of....ahh, I am just working on some
things." Setsuna made a sweeping gesture displaying the laptop she was
working on, she took off her reading glasses and made a motion towards a
coffee carafe. "Now then, why are you awake?"

Michiru made a gesture against the coffee. "No thank you, hmm, I
couldn't sleep tonight, I imagine it is because I am quite excited-"

Setsuna cut her off excitedly. "You are going to show me now aren't
you?" she said grabbing both of Michiru's hands. The turquoise-headed one
giggled at her.

"Yes, Yes." she delved her hands into the pocket of her dressing gown,
she pulled out a small velvet ring box.

"I can't stand it! Show me already." the older girl had practically
squealed.

Michiru opened the box, it revealed a gold ring with a solitaire cut
aquamarine stone...The ring was gorgeous and shone brightly by the light of
 the Setsuna's laptop.

" My goddess, Michiru." she breathed out. "She'll be...oh! It's lovely
Michiru." The girl smiled, looking upon the ring she had comissioned as a
symbol for the one she loved.

" The gold, I chose because she loves it so, the aquamarine, I chose..."
a light blush came to her cheeks. "So she will think of me when she looks
at it."

"Mich, no wonder you cannot sleep, don't worry, she will adore it, how
could she not." Setsuna put her hand on Michiru's shoulder and smiled. "You
have a big day tommorow,ne. So I think you should attempt at sleep."

" I should go check on Hotaru first though-" again the girl was interrupted
by the elder.

" Really, just run along to bed, I will go see to her." Michiru nodded
in agreement and thanks. She closed the ringbox and put it back gingerly
into her pocket as she walked into their bedroom.

Haruka was sitting up on the corner of the bed, cracking her neck and
yawning.

"Haru?" addressing the tall blonde softly.

"I couldn't sleep as well." Haruka nodded at her, patting mattress to
her. Michiru walked over and sat next to her, immeadiately resting her head
 on Haruka's shoulder.

"Actually, when I rolled over and couldn't feel you , I woke up." she
grinned to herself.

After a few quiet moments of rest, the girls said each other's name
aloud. Haruka smiled at Michiru, they both laughed lightly at their
urgencey. Haruka decided she would be the one to speak first.

"You know how I said a had a surprise for you, that you err, had to
wait until tommorow for?" Michiru was looking up into her eyes and nodded.
She was about to say something, but Haruka silenced her, by touching her
index finger to her soft lips, then bent down and kissed her ligthly. " I
love you so much, dear. I don't know how to begin...." Haruka blushed, and
stammered. She couldn't remeber all she had wanted to express to the
beautiful young girl looking up at her so earnestly.

"Haru, love." Michiru laced her hands with Haruka's and looked down at
their meshed hands. "I love your hands, they are so strong and...."

"Michiru." Haruka, leaned over and kissed her on the cheek, and reached
into the pocket of her pajama pants. She tenderly stroked Michiru's left
hand, taking it in the both of hers. Then with a fluid motion Haruka opened
the box and slid a ring onto her's above the band that herself, Michiru and
Setsuna all wore in promise of Hotaru.

Michiru looked at the ring transfixed...it seemed the moonlight had
fled into the room for everything seemed so brilliant at the moment. The
ring was a solitaire, not unlike the one she planned on giving Haruka, but
it was platinum and the stone was a deep sapphire. Michiru gasped in
blissful surprise and held fast to Haruka, almost in tears. Haruka laughed a
deep laugh that held lightly in the air.

Before any reply was given or asked for, Michiru delved into the pocket
of her dressing gown and opened the velvet ring box. Haruka looked down,
watching her graceful simple gestures, when she realized, that Michiru had
the same gift for her, her heart ached. Haruka immeadiately thrust forth her
hand, Michiru brought it up to her lips, and kissed the flat of her hand,
then slid the gold solitaire ring with the beautiful aquamarine onto her
ring finger.

They smiled at one another, and held close, it was perhaps that the use
of words would have spoiled the moment. The rings were more than just
gifts to each other, they were symbols of their love, and a reminder of
their love. The two girls entwined their hands and kissed each other softly,
knowing that the simple gesture would speak volumes of words, that perhaps
would not hold the same if spoken aloud.
